Homemade dog Harness

There are so many harnesses at the store. What size do you get? Which one is right? Don't worry, in this post I will guide you through making your own custom harness. So today I will show you how to make your own dog harness. Follow along with me and you will have a harness for your pet in no time!

Step one Cut two of the body pieces out. Cut a strip of fabric for the back, you will need one metal D ring or a keychain ring.

Step two Sew the strip on the back of the outside piece don’t forget to put your ring under it before you sew.

Step three Sew the front and back of the fabric together, with the wrong side out, sew them around the edge leaving a ½ inch margin leaving a hole to turn it right side out.

Step four Turn right side out using the hole you left open.

Step five Iron the fabric flat, so none of the edges are curling.

Step six Sew the hole you left open closed and edge and stitch all the way around it.

Step seven Sew the Velcro on the neck and waist.

Step eight Try it on your dog if you need to make any more adjustments you certainly can. If you need the pattern go to

And you did it! Only eight simple steps. Now you and your pet can safely go on a walk. Enjoy! 

How to Make A Comfort Jacket

I will teach you how to make A Comfort Jacket Or a Squeeze Jacket as I call them.

1. Get an old T-shirt
2. Cut the sleeves off

3. Cut down the middle of the shirt

4. tighten the neck opening, so it fits well around the dog's neck, and sew it closed

you're almost done!

5.wrap the shirt around the dog (snugly), mark where it needs to fasten closed.
6. Add Velcro on both sides were you marked

Put it on the dog! Now you have a cheaply handmade Comfort Jacket.

How to Make A Tablet Case

Do you have a tablet, and need something to protect it? But you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for it? Well, I have a way you can make a nice but cheap case.

You will Need

Fabric
CardBoard
Hot Glue

            Optional Supplies
Sewing Machine
Cardboard
Hair Tie
Button

    Solution
W x 3 + ½ inch
L X 2 + ½ inch

Step One: Cut the fabric for your tablet.

Step Two: Fold in half widthwise and turn the wrong side out. Put a hair tie (half way)in at one of the tops   (if desired(you may halve to tape it in place.) 

Step three: Sew ¾ the way around. You can use hot glue if you don't have a Sewing Machine.

Step Four: Turn it right side out. 

Step Five: Cut three sheets of cardboard, glue them inside the pocket.  

Step Six: Sew the opening shut. Sew in-between each piece of cardboard.

Step Seven: Fold one third and sew on each side, so you will now have a pocket

Step Eight: If you put a hair tie in step two, then you will need a button to secure it. Hand sew a button on where the hair tie will reach, it may help to make a small pen mark in the center of the hair tie.

TIP:

The pocket may be a little tight for your tablet at first, if needed push both your hands in and stretch it a little.

Now you have made a tablet case. I hope you like it and it works well for you!   

T-shirt pillow

Have you ever had a shirt you just loved and you wore it almost every day for years? But now it's to worn out to ware. I will tell you how to make a pillow out of a t-shirt. Have you ever had a T-shirt you just loved? But it was it was just too First you cut a square out  of the shirt. Put the wrong sides together sew them together except for a small opening. Turn it right side out and stuff it. Now sew the whole closed.

Fingerless Mittens

I made fingerless mittens. My hands are always cold, but I need to use my hands for my school and such. I was sure glad I had them this winter.

They were the easyest mittens I have ever made. I don't like to admit it but it's true, if anything takes me longer than a week i usually give up. But these I did all the way though.her is the pattern.

Ruffle pellow

Today I will instruct you on how to make beautiful ruffle pillow. The best thing is you can reuse old T-shirts. This pillow will go lovely on your bed or couch.

Now I will give you a step-by-step tutorial. I will start by giving you all the materials that are needed.

Materials 

·         Scissors

·         A rolling cutter (if you have it)

·         A cutting mat

·         A measuring square

·         One or two fabrics of your choice

·         Old T-shirts

·         Straight pins

Step One: Pick one (or two if you desire each side to be a different color) color of fabric.

Step Two: Pick 1-3 T-shirts that go with the fabric or fabrics you picked.

Step Thee: Now get your cutting mat, your rolling cutter (if you don’t have one scissors work fine) and your measuring square. Use your measuring square and cut your fabric the size you want your pillow (I made mine 10 inches) (make sure to cut on the cutting mat so you do not cut anything you don’t want to) you want two piece one for the front and one for the back, so if you have two fabrics cut one piece out of each fabric. If you only have one fabric you can fold the piece in half and cut.

Step Four: Cut two or three strips of T-shirt, from the bottom of the shirt.

Step Five:  Now cut the T-shirt strips in a wavy design, then stretch them, this will give them a wave and also by stretching them they will curl a little. Then you will want to pin the T-shirt strips on one or both sides were you want them.

Step Six: With a sewing machine, sew down the middle of the strips, and take the pins out as you go.

Step Seven: (Optional step) cut a circular strip of T-shirt off. Take the pillow and sew the T-shirt around the pillow when you come to were you started overlap a little (about an inch) and then cut the extra off. (If you have a large pillow you can make do with two strips, and cutting them so they are flat and sewing them together to make one long one)

Step Eight: Now take the two sides of the pillow and carefully sew them together to make sure, not to sew the ruffle in. (Make sure to turn the pillow inside out before you sew it so you can turn it right side out and the stitching will be on the inside.)

Step Nine: Turn it right side out. Poke the corners out. And stuff it.

Step Ten: Now sew the opening closed (backstitch about a half a inch when you get to the end of the opening, just to make it stronger.) (Don’t worry about the stitching showing the ruffle will hide it, but if you want to you could stitch all the way around the pillow.)  

Wrap around Dog Sweater, for Small Dogs

I’m sharing today how to make a sweater that will be soft and warm for your dog. After you are done with this project you will have a unique sweater for your small dog.

Step One: Make a pattern. (I will give you the dimensions I used for my pattern later, in the tutorial)

Step Two: Cut around the pattern in scrap fabric, then hold it on the dog and pinch the fabric at the arms. (This step is not necessary but it helps, a lot so you don’t have to start all over if you mess up.)

 

Step Three: If it is a fantastic fit, you can cut it out of the fabric you want to use. 

Step Four: Fold the arms in half and sew along the edge.

Step Five: Once you have the arms sewn, put it on the dog and wrap one bottom corner up to where you want it. Then put a button on the body side of the sweater, where you need it to be. Then cut a small hole with your scissors directly across from the button or use a button-hole maker on a sewing mashing.

Now you have a lovely sweater for your dog. I used an old shirt as the fabric. You can use anything you want though. I hope it turns out well for you.

Here is the approximate dimensions I used for the pattern. Of course, you may have to change it a little for your dog.

Dimensions:

Bottom= 9 ½ inches

Side of body= 5 inches

Sleeves (on the curve)=9 inches

Top=11 inches

Curve outward toward arm=9 inches

     I have included pictures to show the dimensions too, between the pictures and the wording I hope you can figure the pattern out. Remember that it never turns out perfect the first time. So just have fun, the dog will most likely love it as long as it’s warm, I know our dogs would.

 I hope you can make your own pattern from the information I have provided. This is the  pattern that inspired me to make this. 

In some words in the photos of the dimensions above are spelled wrong (I have dyslexia Coupled with I am just not very good at spelling)...sorry for my misspellings hope you can make them out about that I am sure that a few other of my posts are like that. 

How to Make a Wool Dog Sweater

I will show you how to make a homemade dog sweater from an old wool sweater.

Step one: Get an old wool sweater or you can just use a T-shirt if you don’t have a wool sweater.

Step two: For the body of the dog sweater. Take your dog’s store bought sweater and place it on the body of the wool sweater. Then cut out a new body portion from the sweater. (See basic shape for small dog in picture.)  (If you have a half a shirt like the one I used in the picture to use make sure to fold it in half.)

Step three: sew the bottom of the body of the sweater together the part that goes against the dog’s belly. (Make sure to use a sewing machine, don’t hand sew it. The sewing machine is much stronger than hand sewing and will hold up much better)

Step four: cut one of the cuffs off the sweater if your sweater does not have cuffs cut off about two inches or whatever length you need them to be for your dog legs.

Step five: find the middle of the cuff and sew up and back down about half an inch apart.

Step six: cut between where you sewed it to make two sleeves.  

 

Step seven: cut a hole in the sweater where each leg will go. (Use you store bought dog sweater as a guide.)

Step eight: Line up the legs you made in step six with the holes you made in step seven. Sew them on, right sides together

Now you have a custom dog sweater that hopefully fits well. Do not worry if it is not perfect you can never get it to come out perfect on your first try.

If you want to make it stylish you can do a decorative edge stitch, put lace around the edge or you can sew a cut out of a flower or heart on the sweater whatever you like to make it yours.
